Reasons for a blood transfusion…

5 Oct

Just like humans, dogs are involved in accidents or have diseases and health problems that require blood transfusions.

Here is a great story of how a blood transfusion saved one of the NSW police squad dogs – http://www.police.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0008/231749/Dog_Squad_become_blood_donors.pdf

This is such a great blog!

Until recently we were completely unaware that dogs could donate blood too.
We just completed a blog post about it too, check it out.

We used the ABC Behind the News feature Donor Dogs (http://www.abc.net.au/btn/story/s3571632.htm). You might like to use it in one of your upcoming posts.

What kind of demand is there for dog blood donations?

I know – so many people have no idea that dogs can donate blood!

Thanks for the blog post, it’s great to have the word spread.

Thanks for the video, we will be sure to post that in the coming days.

There is a huge demand for dog blood donations, as there are major shortages all across Australia. Donor blood is required for all types of situations with dogs, whether it be an accident requiring an operation or a disease or infection the dog may catch.

Thanks for your input! And love that you are creating awareness for human blood donations!

You have a very informative blog about a lesser known but extremely necessary cause. Very few pet owners know that their healthy dogs could save so many lives by simple blood donation! Many have not yet even considered the idea and we are glad that you are doing something in making people aware about it.

Can you also tell us what are the diseases in dogs where blood transfusion is needed so that we could site your blog as reference in our blog articles http://thetailwaggers.wordpress.com/

Thank you and keep up the good work.
